Photo guidance for various visa applications

Here you can find guidance on photos for various visa applications. This guide can be used if you wish to take the photos yourself or simply check if the ones you got from a photobooth meet visa requirements.

Taking digital photo yourself
Applies to US visa, India eVisa, UAE visa or if you want us to print your photo for any other visa application. Most modern mobiles are perfectly capable of taking good quality photos. It is best to ask your colleague or friend to help with the photos. We recommend the following setting to achieve best results:

  • Position yourself against a mono coloured background;
  • The lighting should be even and not cause any shadows on your face;
  • In case the even lighting is not possible to achieve, use flash on your device;
  • Your head and shoulders must be visible;
  • Make sure the photo complies to the quality and appearance requirements below

We will edit your photograph to the right size and background requirements of the visa. Digital version of the resulting photo can be used for a US visa or Indian eVisa. We can also produce printed version for any other visa application. AnyVisa can also resize your UK standard photos (35*45mm) for Indian standard visa application (50*50mm).

Digital photo service is charged at £15+VAT per applicant/visa application.

Photo quality and appearance
The photographs must be:

  • In colour
  • Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance
  • Taken in front of a plain white or off-white background
  • Taken in full-face view directly facing the camera
  • With a neutral facial expression and both eyes open
  • Taken in clothing that you normally wear on a daily basis
  • Uniforms should not be worn in your photo, except religious clothing that is worn daily.
  • Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures the hair or hairline, unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face.
  • Headphones, wireless hands-free devices, or similar items are not acceptable
  • Wearing glasses is no longer allowed for US visa applications. As a general advice, we recommend not to wear glasses for visa applications at all
  • For China visa application – no jewellery is allowed on photos
